I really appreciated your reaction. Like me, you felt Mackay in a very deep place of your soul. Ren is one of my favorite musicians. My other favorite is The Warning, and I fell in love with them after watching your reaction to 'Choke' two years ago. I continued to follow them and watch them grow exponentially. As they've grown. the sisters (bassist, Ale, is now 19 years old; drummer, Pau, is 22; and guitarist, Dani, is 24), have written and performed masterpieces of hard rock. They have been the opening act for Foo Fighters, Muse, Halestorm, and have also done several solo tours. Pau was recently awarded the 2023 Best Rock Drummer Award by Drumeo. I know your reactions went in different directions after 'Choke', but you might want to take a look at them now. If not, I am still grateful to you for initially turning me on to them.

what is crazy to me is i felt i was drowning in a sea of haunting harmony. then i read his post and looked in to it and found his friend callum died to drowning. i was gob smacked how could just music make me feel something so specific? then, i thought of the great composers and was like holy hell know ren is on a level with my childhood idols. Beethoven, Bach, Mozart etc. just amazing.

One thing i hate in this world like i really really really despise people like this. Bare with me. So i'm from a country that was under communists in the 60 till the 80's. We had an iron curtain on many things and it really really bothers me that people like LARA were never heard in here. Many people in the world have lost a lot from not hearing her the fact that with youtube been around for ages there are people still in the world that haven't heard the name LARA FABIAN is just an atrocity that needs to be corrected. I understand why Dimash has her as his idol because. She is just perfect. I know its a 2 years old clip of a reaction but goddamn i'm late to the party i guess.

Ren plays a grand piano at the start of "Money Game 3" and the video just won several International Music Videos Awards. The "Money Game" trilogy isn't like "The Tale of Jenny & Screech" where you have to watch them all together although I would suggest starting with #1, then the #2 lyric video, before doing #3.

In the premiere for this Ren said he wanted to give everyone the space to remember their loved ones as he remembered Calum. He urged several thousand people to share the names of people they miss. They whizzed by in the chat. And then we were all transported, and suddenly the pace dropped and we weren't watching or listening but *feeling* the music. So beautiful.

@Sabina1118 In English, people often describe the feelings evoked by a song like this as "bittersweet". Many years ago, I became obsessed for a while with the Japanese term, "mono no aware". You can type that phrase into Wikipedia and get a fascinating article that I think you would really enjoy. Simplifying it *way* down, and noting that not having grown up in Japanese culture my understanding is likely to be imperfect in the first place, it's the idea that even beautiful, wonderful things and experiences are impermanent, and that the sadness that is attached to that knowledge isn't something to be run away from or numbed, but rather is an essential part of appreciating the thing or experience. Cherry Blossoms are a great example: viewing Cherry Blossoms and Cherry Blossom Festivals are about as representative of Japanese culture as you're ever going to find-- they're heartachingly beautiful, but they are only in bloom for a short period of time, usually one-two weeks. I experienced this feeling strongly when listening to Mackay-- there are parts that are playful, parts that are uplifting, but it always comes back to the melancholy theme. It really felt like I was sharing in the joy that Callum brought to his friends, but always with the knowledge that his life was tragically impermanent-- but that knowledge was somehow an integral part of being able to appreciate Callum's life.

I think I had the same reaction as you Sabina.... Even without words he was able to produce a wonderful tribute to Callum. I remember reading what Ren had said about this piece and when he tried to write something the words just wouldn't come. I truly think in this case they didn't have to for him to succeed in what he wanted to do.

Your openness to whatever emotions come up from inside you stemming from a piece of music was beautiful to see. You didn't need a back story to fully experience this. Thank you. ❤💜💙
